Zhengzhou City, abbreviated as “Zheng,” is a prefecture-level city and provincial capital in Henan Province, classified as a megacity. Historically known as the “Center of Heaven and Earth,” it is also called the “Commercial Capital” and the “Green City.” Located in north-central Henan Province at the boundary between the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River, its terrain slopes from southwest to northeast. It features a temperate continental monsoon climate, with 124 rivers of varying sizes flowing through its territory, spanning the Yellow River and Huai River basins. The city's total area is 7,567 square kilometers. As of 2025, Zhengzhou administers 6 districts, 1 county, and oversees 5 county-level cities. [124] By the end of 2024, Zhengzhou's permanent resident population reached 13.086 million. 

Zhengzhou is a National Historical and Cultural City, a significant cradle of Chinese civilization, and one of China's Eight Ancient Capitals. Its cumulative years as a major capital span 355 years (excluding the Xia Dynasty). It is one of six major archaeological sites receiving key national support and a member of the World Historical Cities Union. As of August 2024, Zhengzhou boasts 2 World Heritage sites comprising 12 locations, 83 national key cultural relics protection units across 89 sites, 149 provincial-level cultural relics protection units in Henan Province, and 6 entries on the national intangible cultural heritage list. It serves as a comprehensive national transportation hub integrating public roads, railways, aviation, and communications, having developed a transportation network comprising rail, road, and air transport modes.

Zhengzhou is a national central city supported by the CPC Central Committee, designated by the State Council as a key central city in Central China. It functions as an international comprehensive transportation hub, an advanced manufacturing base, a commerce and logistics center, a gateway for opening up, and a regional hub for technological innovation. The city's six leading industries are electronic information, automobiles, equipment manufacturing, new materials, modern food processing, and aluminum and aluminum deep processing.
